Surprise surgery today!

Monday, February 9, 2009

They called, they did it, we're done!! I got a phone call from the nurse saying that the x-ray showed her heart was enlarged again and so the cardiologist decided to do the surgery today! At 1:00 they called me and said that he would be done with another surgery in an hour and then it would be Darbi's turn! The surgery went well. They put another clip on her heart and now she has 2 but now the vein is closed. At least that's what they said. I'm sure they will do another echo tomorrow to double check. It better be closed...

She is stable right now though and she did really well with the surgery. The nurses are actually really surprised that her oxygen need is so low. I had a little hiccup with my blood pressure this weekend and it got a bit high but we're over that and it's back to normal. I can total see how good news makes it better.. with the surgery going well it came right down!

Other news: Darbi gets the perimeter of her head measured every Sunday night to make sure it's not growing too fast or swelling. February 1st it measured 21.5 cm and yesterday it measured 24 cm. Normal growth in a week is .5 to 1 cm. Not so good. We are worried now about there being excess fluid in her brain or possible enlargement of the ventricals due to her brain bleeding. They will do a head ultrasound tomorrow to see what the reason for the swelling is. Hopefully it's just a growth spurt.

Wow. I'm so glad to hear her surgery went well today. She is an amazing little girl. Our prayers are with her... these little ones endure so much, it breaks my heart.

My little girl has an appointment up at Primary's tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 11th). We were gonna drop in to the NICU to visit Dr. Null... I'll see if you're in. It'd be nice to meet you! :)

Hope you're doing well. Know I think of you often.

Sincerely,
Ashley - Your Visiting Teacher
